ALERT: U.S. News & World Report (College Board)

SUMMARY - RECALL MISINFORMATION (again)

MTSD is NOT ranked correctly in the U.S. News & World Report ranking. This is NOT NEW NEWS.

This has been well known and documented for 5 months, but the anti-school board group continues to push it out as fact and a reason for recall.

So, while the community may now just be hearing about it, The only new news is the misinformation is still circulating.

FACTS

  • U.S. News gets a data dump from the College Board for their annual study.

  • MTSD's data for (1) AP classes and (2) AP scores was not included in the data dump.

  • When the report came out, MTSD immediately investigated and was told MTSD did not have a National Center of Statistics ID. AP scores are not connected to other data.

  • There was never an issue in past years and it has been corrected.

  • US News (as of now) is not going to re-run the study.

Why does this keep happening?

Statement Regarding HHS's U.S. News & World Report "Best High Schools" Ranking

Apr 30 2021

Mequon-Thiensville School District administration is aware of Homestead High School (HHS) state ranking #142 in the most recent U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools electronic publication. Two of the five ranking factors for Homestead High School are listed as not applicable under the current rankings methodology. These two ranking factors are determined based on 12th-grade students’ participation and success on Advanced Placement examinations. U.S. News & World Report has shared that they are provided Advanced Placement data directly from the College Board. As with past rankings by US News and World Report, the rankings are determined based on assessment results from two years prior. The 2021 US News & World Report rankings are determined based on assessment data from the 2018-19 school year. MTSD administration has contacted US News & World Report to communicate the problem and requested an updated ranking for HHS as soon as possible.
