Since my election to the Mequon-Thiensville School board in 2019, I have had the great pleasure of serving a school district I love. During my time on the board, I have found my board colleagues and the administration to be professional but also unrelenting in a shared desire to continue raising the bar for our students' success and working to ensure that every student succeeds.
It disheartens me to see that the recall group has divided the community with distortion about how the board operates. They either do not understand the how Policy Governance boards work or chose to ignore the fact. In either case, I can assure the community of Mequon-Thiensville that the Board did not abdicate its responsibilities to an un-elected official last fall.
Let me highlight some positives about MTSD:
Mequon–Thiensville School District continues to be an excellent academic performer. DPI ranked MTSD #2 among all K-12 school districts in Wisconsin, based on latest report card.
MTSD is one of three of Wisconsin’s 421 districts to maintain Moody’s highest [Aaa] bond rating. This rating, combined with the board’s strong, conservative fiscal oversight, will save the district and ultimately the taxpayers, $15.9 million of referendum bond interest.
MTSD offered on/off campus learning environments 100% of the 2020-21 school year, after an initial 4 day pause for on-campus learning.
My appeal to the Mequon-Thiensville community is to seek the truth, stay engaged and reject distortions. Vote on Nov 2nd to re-elect the current board and keep national politics out of MTSD School Board.
